LAFS - FESTIVAL OF BRITISH ARCHAEOLOGY

Our showcase and exhibition at Temple Newsam in Leeds as part of The Festival of British Archaeology 2010 went very well and was attended by a great many people. We are most grateful to James Lomax and Kate from Temple Newsam who gave us great assistance in all the stages from the initial organisation and publicity right through to the laying out
of the follow on display which was there for two weeks after the showcase day. The event created a great deal of interest from the press with articles in the Yorkshire Post plus other papers and advertisements on local radio and internet.

Gladstone Pottery Museum
The showcase day itself was very busy with many visitors travelling quite a distance to see the exhibition about our discovery of an early Leeds slipware kiln and the thriving community of potters that lived there. Many people from other societies were there on the day. There were many items on display from nearly complete chargers, posset pots and
other slipware to some excellent examples of saggers and spacers used in the slipware manufacturing process. Kathy and Jean gave an excellent talk on our year long excavation of the slipware kiln at the site on Manston Lane and its connection with the nearby site of Lazencroft Farm.

Our ongoing research is yielding up a wealth of information about the site itself and its connection with the area through the slipware and potters. This will lead to a full and detailed report which will take some time yet to complete as we are building on the commonplace public domain information to create a much fuller picture. We continue to be grateful to various members of the academic community for the resources made available to us due to the importance of the site.
